The article examines the peculiarities of forming water-green territories in contemporary cities amid worsening environmental conditions and a shortage of high-quality recreational infrastructure. An analysis of international and domestic experience in the development of waterfronts and water-green spaces is conducted, identifying key principles for their effective organization: ecological sustainability, social inclusivity, multifunctionality, and integration into the urban environment. The study reveals major problems faced by modern water-green territories in Ukraine, including the inaccessibility of waterfronts, barriers along shorelines, degradation of natural environments, and insufficient integration with urban development. Based on the analysis, a comprehensive set of measures for the reconstruction and development of water-green areas is proposed: zoning according to functional purposes, implementation of ecological technologies, development of pedestrian and cycling networks, and application of nature-based solutions for ecosystem stabilization. Particular attention is given to involving local communities in the planning and operation of these territories. Recommendations are formulated for the strategic integration of water-green areas into urban structures through master plans, local regulations, environmental management tools, and public participation mechanisms. A comparative analysis of international and Ukrainian waterfront development projects is presented, highlighting common sustainable development trends and the need to adapt best practices to national contexts. The main directions for the future development of water-green territories are summarized, emphasizing their role in improving urban quality of life and promoting sustainable urban development.
